If you have 2 months rent, a good income, and a security deposit, bad credit is not much of a problem any place.
It depends on how bad. Lower then 600 pretty much means the ghetto is the place for you. There are too many normal people in LA for a decent landlord to risk renting to someone almost guaranteed to have trouble paying the rent.
Right now the vacancy rate in the greater Los Angeles area is up, making there many more rentals available. There are also many more people right now, just like after the 94 earthquake, that have bad credit and foreclosures on their record, and landlords are starting to realize this.
Let them know at the start that you are prepared to have 1st month rent and two months security deposit. You will also have to pay an application fee to apply most places. Best of luck!
If you have the money for your move-in expenses and have a job, you should be ok. I would suggest telling your potential landlord that 2008 was a bad year for you and that when he runs a credit check he/she will see _____________. Explain what happened - then keep your fingers crossed. It’s called being honest.
